Republic of Indonesia Wins in Anti Dumping Biodiesel dispute at WTO
JAKARTA, SAWIT INDONESIA - The World Trade Organization (WTO) declared Indonesia to win in anti-dumping dispute trial of biodiesel against the European Union. Because the EU is inconsistent with the rules of the WTO Anti-Dumping Agreement.
Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that Indonesia has won a biodiesel dispute with the European Union (EU). The final result of the WTO Dispute Council Panel (DSB) award won six Indonesian lawsuits over the EU. This was conveyed by Minister of Trade from Islamabad, Pakistan, today, Friday (26/1).
"This is a form of landslide victory for Indonesia which will open the market access and re-spur the performance of biodiesel exports to the EU for Indonesian producers, having previously experienced sluggishness due to the imposition of anti dumping duties on the products," said Minister .
The EU is imposing a BMAD on Indonesia biodiesel products since 2013 with a dumping margin of 8.8% -23.3%. Since then, Indonesia's biodiesel exports to the EU have declined.
Based on statistical data from BPS, in the period 2013-2016 Indonesia's biodiesel exports to the EU fell by 42.84%, from USD 649 million in 2013 fell to USD 150 million in 2016. Indonesia's EU biodiesel export value is the lowest in 2015 ie only USD 68 million.
Indonesia's victory over this dispute gives hope to Indonesian biodiesel exporters / producers. Indonesia's biodiesel export trend to EU in the period since the imposition of BMAD until the issuance of the final decision of the WTO Dispute Settlement Agency (2013-2016) is estimated at 7%.
"If the increase can be maintained in the next two years, then the value of Indonesia's biodiesel exports to the EU in 2019 is expected to reach USD 386 million and in 2022 will reach USD 1.7 billion," added the Minister of Trade in his press release.
The WTO Dispute Council Panel has seen that the EU is inconsistent with the WTO Anti-Dumping Agreement rules during the dumping investigation process until the adoption of BMAD on biodiesel imports from Indonesia.
